Commentary: my word, words can hardly describe how amazing this is and creative! I love the perfect scaling and details here, it shows well. It lets you feel how it would be to stand there in front of the dragon, the viewer could imagine them self standing there, the scenery amazes me the most with all the details and effort put into every single small feature such as the clouds and the mist from them, the silhouette of the dragon and the town, it makes one wonder what goes on there and last of all the plants such as the trees, it beautiful and in all honesty, I've not seen many artist focus that well on the small details such as plants which all in all impresses me, Impressive work and I do hope this goes in as a successful entry into the DA contest =]
Originality: I would say dragons are common but the action and the way everything is set up isn't so original, so props to you as my other friends say =]
Technique: As I've said before, I love the effort and work put into every single detail here such as background and the everything else ranging from brushwork to scaling to quality of the picture itself.
Now it's time for my very first critique! This artwork deserves nothing less... First of all, I love how much detail you've put into this although it appears to be a speedpaint. There is so much to discover in this beautiful landscape. The wings of the dragon are a real eyecatcher and are leading the eye to other parts of the picture.
You are very skillful at using the right colors. Especially the contrast between the warm natural colors at the lower part of the picture between the cold, hard colors of the upper part. It gives the feeling of perspective and depth to the picture and it makes it less messy but easy to watch, despite all the details!
I think there should be more lighting and shading on the wings of the dragon. Both wings are colored similar, it makes it look unrealistic compared to the rest of the picture.
I'm also missing a shadow underneath the dragon. It looks like he's not really standing on the hill but in the middle of nowhere, as he is only inserted in the background. (Hope it doesn't sound too confusing, I can't explain it very well)
Nethertheless it's an amazing piece of art and the thumbnail really caught my attention! I can see how much effort you've put into this Can't wait to see much more art from you!
